ABOUT BRHC

Ben Rhydding Hockey Club was formed in 1901 and soon established its home ground at Coutances Way where it has remained to this day. Over the past 30 years the club has become one of the largest in Yorkshire with 8 mens amd 5 womens teams playing every Saturday.

Hockey as a sport has rocketed in popularity over the past 20 years with Great Britain winning a Bronze medal and subsequently a Gold medal in the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics respectively. Greater Newspaper, Radio and Television coverage has ensured that the sport continues to thrive. With more and more schools adding hockey to their sporting curriculum and Clubs inundated with children wanting to play, the game is guaranteed a healthy future.

Ladies

Ben Rhydding Ladies Hockey Club has been running for well over a hundred years. Starting with one small team it has grown to be one of the largest hockey clubs in Yorkshire. It runs five senior Ladies sides, a Veterans side and provides coaching for over 100 hundred girls within our colts section. We have top quality coaches working with both our seniors and juniors.

The Ladies Teams 2010/11 season:

1stXI:

Last season (2009/10) saw our Ladies first XI in the Northern Premiere league after being relegated from the National League, after five years. They just missed out returning back into the North National league by coming second in their league.
James Ross joined us in 2009 as 1st / 2nd team coach and 1st Team Manager. James has been coaching for around 12 years and is the head of Hockey at Leeds Metropolitan University.

Training: Tuesday night: 8pm-10pm

2nd XI

The 2009 /10 saw the Ladies 2nd XI have enjoy a good season in the Yorkshire Premiere League they finished a very respectable 3rd. Like the 1st XI they are pushing to return straight back to the higher regional leagues.
They also beat Leeds University 1st XI in the Yorkshire Cup Final.

The 2nd XI train with the 1st XI squad on a Tuesday night. The sessions are run by James Ross and supported by Melissa Reynard. Their manager is the very experienced Pam Gibson.

3rdXI

Last season the 3rd XI played in the Yorkshire League Division 1. It’s been tough year on the pitch for the thirds and Mary was worried for some time that they be relegated but they battled on and finished 10th in the league.
The 3rdXI are very lucky to be coached by a very up and coming coach in Phil Burgen. Phil gives up a lot of his free time to coach the ladies and colts.

4th XI

The 4th XI were captained last season by Sally Harrison and they played in the Yorkshire League Division 4 and finished 10th. Sally has been supported by her vice Captain Sarah Pink and Sue Graham sorted Umpires.

5th XI

For the 2009/10 season the 5th XI remained in the Yorkshire League Division 5. Alex Barron did a great job in getting a team out each week. The 5th Team also finished 10th in their league.
The 4ths and 5ths and the Under 16 team have benefited from the coaching skills of John Till this season.

For the forth coming season the 5th XI have a new captain:
