Ben Rhydding Hockey Club was formed in 1901 and soon established its home ground at Coutances Way where it has remained to this day. Over the past 30 years the club has become one of the largest in Yorkshire with 8 mens amd 5 womens teams playing every Saturday.
Hockey as a sport has rocketed in popularity over the past 20 years with Great Britain winning a Bronze medal and subsequently a Gold medal in the Los Angeles and Seoul Olympics respectively. Greater Newspaper, Radio and Television coverage has ensured that the sport continues to thrive. With more and more schools adding hockey to their sporting curriculum and Clubs inundated with children wanting to play, the game is guaranteed a healthy future.
In 2006/2007 the Ladies 1st XI will continue to play in the National League North, while the Men will again be playing in the Northern Premier League. Ben Rhydding's key objective is to ensure that the Men's 1st XI achieve a place in the National League, which is predominately made up of teams from the South of England, and therefore establish Ben Rhydding as a dominant force in National Hockey.
