The 5th X1 took on a strong Sheffield Hallam side, both teams were packed with outstanding juniors and this game was a great advert for Hockey.
Ben Rhydding got off to a perfect start with some superb passing moves which Dave Wilcock and Jono McMillan finished off to go 2-0 up.
George Day and George Gamble both making their debuts in senior hockey had excellent games, Ian Shutt and McMillan held the midfield and Hallam struggled to break the unbeated 5th team down.
In the second half Sheffield woke up and poured forward, only to find ex 1st team skippers Andrew Cussons and Alistair Woodhead in sparkling form in defence.
Tom Mountain in goal made some crucial saves and was unlucky when Sheffield scored through a deflection. Ben Rhydding then made a decisive break which Dave Wilcock finished off to go 3-1 up.
Sheffield never gave up and got one back through a fortuitous goal but ran out of time, and the 5th X1 carry on with their 100 % winning start to the league season. Man of the match was awarded to Dave Wilcock for his 2 goals and his tireless running back to help the defence.
