BLACKBURN P[Y], DAWSON R, ROUGHTON J, SUTHERLAND R, BURGIN P, BROOK R, JACKSON M, WRIGHT D (1) **MOTM** , WILCOCK D, BROOKSBANK S (1), SUTHERLAND A,
A depleted Rhydding side came up a gainst a strong home team but a game Ben Rhydding should have won after failing to capitalise on a positive 1st half.

Rhydding scored first down with a move from Roughton at the back to Sutherland inside right. He slipped a pass to Dawson who turned and laid the ball off for Sam Brooksbank on his debut running at speed to slide the ball neatly past the advancing Scunthorpe keeper 0-1.
Scunthorpe were back level with a scrappy goal that should not have been allowed and added a second shortle after follwinig a mistake by the defence.2-1.

Rhydding played some good hockey and a short corner produced some wonderful stickwork on the left D by Wright to beat a defender and hammer the ball in between keeper and post in the narrowest of angles.

However, poor control with mixed performances from Jackson, Wilcock and Dawson and Brook during several promising attacks in the second half let Rhydding down and strong hit outs from the Scunthorpe centre back through the field often caught Rhydding at the back. A stoic but injured Burgin produced some superb last ditch tackles and positive goalkeeping from a stand in Richard Sutherland could not prevent Scunthorpe scoring two further goals down the middle after two bad errors had given the ball away.

Several short corners came to nothing after Rhydding pressure but Blackburn was then dismissed by the opposition umpire for yelling in frustration after a series of blunders involving 'misjudged and simply wrong' decisions involved a push on Wright in the D on the ball with the umpire close by and should have been a penalty. However, Rhydding could have got the ball around the back more to unlock an average opposition side.

Man of the Match; D Wright
