BMW Beach Hockey - Euro Cup 2010

During the first weekend of July, a number of Ben Rhydding players represented Great Britain whilst participatating in the first ever Beach Hockey Euro Cup, sponsored by BMW.

Present First Team players Fran Holmes, Jess Purvis, Kate Hesketh, Rachelle Le Bourdon, Jodie Bridger and Rebecca Fox were joined by the one and only Holly Crank in Belgium,  to compete against an array of representative players from the following countries:

• France
• The Netherlands
• Spain
• Belgium
• Germany

Whilst the English football team were being soundly beaten by the Germans, our girls were setting the record straight across the Channel. Following a number of wins during the initial games, Team GB found themselves in the Play-Off game for 3rd/4th Place against Spain, beating the Spanish 4-2 to end up THIRD PLACE for the whole tournament!

Not only did the players rise to challenge at short notice, but they excelled in a version of the sport that they had never competed in before, against some fantastic European players. As a coach I am extremely proud of each of them, and I am sure that the members of the club would congratulate them on their achievements whilst representing the club. WELL DONE LADIES!

Discussions are now being held on whether 40 tonnes of sand can be shipped over from Belgium in time for pre-season training. :)
