Another great win to finish the season off in style and secure the champions spot against a Leeds University team that had to win to secure their promotion.
Rhydding started slowly and Leeds controlled the game, but thanks to solid defending by French, Moore and Box, didn't penetrate the D very often, and when they did they met with Cam Herbert in excellent form.
After 15 minutes though we began to compete better all over the pitch and having won then ball made better use of it - finding the hard working Studholme, Naylor and King up front, who with good pace and movement off the ball posed a real threat with every attack.
It was from one of these attacks that Studholme scored his first of the afternoon. Unortunately Leeds hit back straight away from a short corner, leaving the score 1 - 1 at half time.
The half time talk called for more of the same, but with a little more aggression to counter the enthusiasm and work rate of the students. We got this and more, playing some of the best hockey of the season in the second half, with a mixture of long balls from French, Horsman and Box and good interplay in the mid-field of the mid field, linking with the pacey and skilful forwards, every attack put the students under pressure.
The second goal came from a penalty flick following a short corner - both taken by Studholme. The students were not a happy bunch as they saw there propotion spot slipping away and showed a little too much dissent, earling themselves a yellow card. Being down to 10 men certainly didn't help their cause and Rhydding capitalised - Studholme scoring a third and then a fourth.
Game over, and the end of a very enjoyable season. Many thanks to all those who have played, umpired or supported through the season. Next year will be toughter i'm sure, but if we play as we can, we can do pretty well.
