16th Nov 2019 Mens 1st v Chester Men's 1s(Away) 2 - 0 win

Ben Rhydding faced another long journey to play Chester and with three key players missing, took three points off their hosts in a tight and sticky game. Neither side was prepared to gamble in the first fifteen minutes and cautious possession, awaiting chances to go forward was a mutual tactic. Chester had three corners, all superbly defended by Rhydding, then young Carrick Matthews was scythed down in the circle, drawing a corner for Rhydding which they despatched with a brilliant routine, finished by the indefatigable Will Musgrave. The game remained one of outlet and press up to half time and it was a tough blow for Chester that their captain left the field with injury early in the second half as this seemed to be the invitation that Rhydding needed to take control. Many chances went begging and Chesters keeper made some fine saves too, but Rhydding had the upper hand and Chester were tiring. With six minutes to go, Chester took their keeper off but Rhydding sliced through and Max Helme finished an easy goal to seal the game. Josh Hughes in goal had an outstanding performance and should be very proud of a clean sheet which is rare in this league.
