15th Feb 2020 Mens 1st v Chester Men's 1s(Home) 1 - 1 draw

Chester – 1
Ben Rhydding – 1

Battling Storm Dennis as well as Chester’s smash and grab tactics, Rhydding were gutted to come away with a draw after having Chester under pressure for large patches of the game. Chester turned a Rhydding corner into a great counter attack and scored on the break to go 1-0 up in the first five minutes. Rhydding then spent an hour chasing the game. They had dozens of circle entries in the second half and Chester had very little of the ball, but Rhydding just could not make those final connections to convert. Ross McMillan came close on several occasions and it was a cruel injustice that he did not score given the work he put in. A naïve yellow card for Rhydding just when they had Chester under the pump meant the visitors were given a reprieve until they got a player sent off too and Rhydding upped the anti again. Will Musgrave converted a corner to level the scores and the home team were back in the game.
The storm raged on and so did Rhydding; McMillan a whisker away from sliding onto a Gamble cross, Jones and Birch throwing everything forwards and running through walls for their team, Charlie Smith hitting the post and then the frustration of a McMillan goal being disallowed. Rhydding continued to pepper the goal and Chester’s keeper must have been exhausted. With two corners in the dying minutes, Rhydding should have claimed their well deserved victory but they failed to convert and had to settle for a draw.
