9th Oct 2021 Mens 1st v Durham Univ(Home) 4 - 1 win

A fast and furious game saw Rhydding take control and continue their unbeaten form with 4 wins from 4. The home side had the majority of the possession for the first ten minutes but Durham got plenty of pressure to the ball, it was Rhydding’s composure and excellent two-touch hockey that kept them in such control. Will Jones won a corner which Will Musgrave clinically despatched to open the scoring and also to celebrate his 200th goal for the Men’s 1st team.

However on the stroke of Half Time, a fleeting lapse in concentration allowed the students to equalise and show that they were going to remain a threat. A few key tactical refinements saw Rhydding emerge a formidable force in the second half and delivered what can only be described as a blitz to create three outstanding goals and leave the students in disarray.

It was the warrior, Matty Birch that began the first of these goals, with magnificent defending and turning this into attack; Will Musgrave with a visionary pass to George Gamble who set up Charlie Smith for a dazzling finish into the roof of the net.

Starlet, Olly Laxton created the next goal, perfectly timing the last pass to Musgrave who gobbled up the chance to score again. An outstanding performance by Dave McCollum saw him influencing play throughout and it was his ball into the circle for Ross McMillan to skilfully deflect and really kill the game off at 4-1.

This sees Rhydding nestling behind Lindum on goal difference at the top of the league.
