23rd Oct 2021 Mens 1st v Sheffield Bankers (Away) 4 - 2 win

BEN RHYDDING 4
SHEFFIELD BANKERS 2

Despite missing 3 key players this week, Rhydding continued their winning form, and retain their spot at the top of the League, having won 6 from 6.

It was a scrappy and frantic start in Sheffield and Rhydding could not find their flow. It took 4 corners to eventually get ahead courtesy of Callum Franks who is in sparkling form.

Rhydding really started to play hockey in the second half, connecting well and defending ruthlessly. Young Ewan Wardle created the first chance with some dynamic press work, winning the ball and putting Max Helme through to beat the keeper and make it 2-0.

Matty Birch scored an unstoppable corner for number 3 after trojan work from Dave McCollum working the ball forwards. Olly Laxton with a composure beyond his tender years smashed home goal number 4 after Callum Franks carved up the defence, and Rhydding could have been forgiven for thinking the game was over.

However, Bankers had other ideas and kept their counter attack fast and furious, drawing a corner which they scored a nice drag flick from to come back to 4-1.

Finishing on 4-2 after Rhydding conceded a penalty stroke, the score did not reflect Rhydding’s dominance in the second half but another 3 points secured and they remain unbeaten.
