26th Mar 2022 Mens 1st v Leeds 2(Home) 5 - 3 win

In uncomfortably warm conditions, Ben Rhydding and Leeds played a high quality game of hockey. Rhydding held off the first bout of pressure from Leeds defending a flurry of corners and replied by scoring from their first corner at the other end. Callum Franks expertly delivered to put Rhydding ahead after only 7 minutes. Leeds equalised with a composed goal but Charlie Smith put Rhydding back in front with a stunning back-space goal into the roof of the net.

Rhydding changed gear in the second half but Leeds caught them against the run of play on the break to level again at 2-2. Rhydding were all over Leeds now and creating so many chances but Leeds broke away again and scored from a strange angle to take the lead. Rhydding retorted immediately with a dazzling corner routine that Charlie Smith finished to level the scores again. And it was Smith again who gave his team the lead after Matty Birch found the most delectable ball through for him and he smashed home on his reverse for a glorious hat-trick goal to make it 4-3. Will Musgrave had the last word, creaming home a forehand smasher to seal the deal at 5-3.
