29th Sep 2018 Mens 2nd v Sheff Univ Bankers 4(Home) 1 - 0 win

A solid win for the seconds over a well disciplined Bankers side. Rhydding were always the more threatening team but didn't make the Sheffield keeper work too hard.

Ollie Burton's open stick strike before half-time came after a period of improving Rhydding work spoilt by a tendency to shoot on the reverse. Will McHugh made a strong debut in a midfield anchored by evergreen Danny Foster.

The second half saw a familiar story of the opposition sitting deep and looking to catch Rhydding on the break as they pressed for a second goal. The midfield, supported by Harry Appleby and Tom Ibison in defence, stood firm leaving Will little to do in goal. There were a few nervous moments when Harry was resting for 2mins following a less-refined tackle but Bankers were restricted to a single PC in the whole game.

The final minutes saw Rhydding pressing when, perhaps, they should have looked to kill the game off but a first win of the season was just reward.

Special mention to Tommy Hagan who left the game at half-time to umpire the 5ths.
