19th Jan 2019 Mens 2nd v Driffield 2(Away) 0 - 3 loss

A disappointing result for the 11 Men's 2s players who worked very hard against 16 from Driffield. A good game was spoilt somewhat by inexperienced umpires who were far too happy to hand out cards to both sides and made some significant mistakes.

Driffield were clearly looking to beat the league leaders and took an early lead as loose defending allowed the ball to be snuck home at the back post. Rhydding responded well and, despite Burton's first green card, looked threatening for the whole of the game. Dunn's hard running to the back post and Sturgeon's drive from inside forward caused the defence difficulties.

Halftime saw Rhydding turn round 1-0 down but very much the dominant team. Driffield had resorted to throwing longer balls down the pitch in the hope of getting a quick break. MoM Ibison and Powell stood firm behind Till at centre-half.

In the second half Rhydding continued to press and secured 4 consecutive short corners. McHugh's flick was very well saved on the fourth. This was the start of a brief period of Driffield threat as Normington and McHugh received green cards. The second goal came from another breakaway.

The third goal came from a penalty flick awarded for Powell's alleged comment (accompanied by a yellow card) after a good tackle outside the circle was adjudged to have been a foul. Despite diving the right way Benedikz was unable to reach the ball.

Burton picked up his second green of the game later on in the half which saw Rhydding have the lion's share of possession and opportunities. Driffield used their numbers well and Rhydding finished the game exhausted.
