28th Sep 2019 Mens 2nd v Sheffield University Bankers4(Home) 2 - 1 win

The BRHC team to face Sheffield had a new look with Petur Benedikz, Rob Elsworth, Ewan Wardle and Steve Paxton all making their debut for the 2s.

Sheffield came ready to defend and set a half-court press from the start of the game. Rhydding, in particular Jack Sturgeon and Tommy Hagan battered away at the defence though at times it looked like there would be no way through. Sheffield were confined to break away chances which were snuffed out by Tom Ibison and joint MoM Mark Horsman in defence. Completely against the run of play Sheffield scored from a fortunate twice-deflected short corner and Rhydding ended the half 1-0 down.

The second half was more of the same as Rhydding dominated and Sheffield countered where they could. Paxo moved to inside forward and Will Bradley moved to his favoured centre-mid role which secured the midfield. Rob Elsworth had a strong debut on the right but it was Jack Sturgeon who got the final touch on a short corner to draw the teams level. As Rhydding continued to pile pressure on the defence before Jack pounced again during a melee to secure the points.

Petur, Ewan, Rob and Paxo should all be proud of their debut performances. We will be seeing more of them in the future. We are especially grateful to Josh and Ewan who doubled up to help us out.
