9th Nov 2019 Mens 2nd v Sheffield University Bankers3(Away) 1 - 0 win

Ben Rhydding mens 2nd team travelled to Sheffield University Bankers for what would be a very entertaining game, with Rhydding one of the leagues most prolific scoring teams up against the leagues meanest defence.
Rhydding started probing from the off asking questions of the Bankers defense with Danny Foster and Jack Sturgeon feeding the ever-running Hagan, Fantastic and Murgatroyd only for the defence to stand firm.
The first chance of the game came to Rhydding after Harry Appleby pressing high turned the ball over and float a pass to Foster open at the top of circle only for the oncoming keeper to save the snap shot. Bankers played their patient game play and tried to dictate the game testing Rhydding keeper Will Benedikz but to no avail Rhydding defence stood firm and held their nerve.
After a solid first half display Rhydding took charge once again trying to find a gap in the tight and stubborn Bankers defence with a quick free hit from Foster to Rob Elsworth. He drifted across the top of circle and unleashed a devastating reverse stick shot which, with power and precision, fired past the helpless Bankers keeper 1-0 Rhydding. This changed the process that Bankers were playing, and they had to actually try and score in the second half. Rhydding were able to soak up the pressure and play on the counter attack releasing through Powell (who had another good game at half back) but could not kill the game off. Luckily for Rhydding the game ended 1-0 taking Rhydding to the top of the league.

Man of the match Kit Fantastic for his endless work rate both attacking and defending.
A special mention to the youngsters Rob Elsworth, Mark Horsman, George Maddaford and Carrick Matthews who are growing in confidence and stature week by week.

Next week Rhydding entertain local rivals Ramgharia at Ben Rhydding Sports Club at 15:00 please come down support all the teams playing at home the players do appreciate it and it does make a difference when we have a big crowd.
