2 points dropped or one point gained? Ben Rhydding 3rds dominated for large spells, but Mirfield battled resiliently and defended well and we struggled to break them down, sometimes rushing attacks rather than building more patiently.
Mirfield took the lead completely against the run of play mid-way through the first half with one of their first forays into the Ben Rhydding D and a really sloppy defensive goal was conceded from a seemingly impossible angle.
Rhydding continued to press and forced the equaliser on the stroke of half time with a well-worked short corner giving the impressive Joe Braithwaite a tap in at the far post. We hoped this would be the launch pad for a stronger second half performance but 5 minutes in we conceded another sloppy goal, with a Mirfield player allowed to run unchallenged towards the D before picking out a pass.
We scrapped and fought, with Caldwell forcing home a rebound from a short corner with 3 minutes to go, Overall, a disappointing performance but good battling spirit to rescue something, so yes, a point gained.
