10th Nov 2018 Mens 3rd v City of York 6(Away) 5 - 4 win

The 3rd team travelled to York knowing that only a win would be enough to keep the promotion push alive. Rhydding started well and went 1-0 up through a fine dribble and shot from Man of the Match Hudson. Unfortunately the lead would not last long. A York short corner shot was deflected of Pratt's stick up into the goal almost taking Rayner's head off. Rhydding pushed to get ahead but were undone by 2 further York goals from short corners. Half time, Rhydding were down but not out and motivated by skipper Higgitt's half time talk, as well as the wind up antics of the York keeper.
We started the second half with much greater tempo and when Higgitt went on a run in York's 23, both Young and Worthington sprinted to the posts. Higgitt drilled the ball to Worthington who brilliantly deflected in on the reverse.
It wasn't long before Rhydding made it 3 each as Young finished off a well-worked short corner move. By now Rhydding were definitely on top after changing the structure to give more bite in midfield. Higgitt worked hard up front and soon rampaged down the right and into the D, squaring for Priestley who slotted home to put Rhydding in the lead. In a topsy turvey game this lead was not going to last and York soon equalised only for Rhydding to immediately re-take the lead as Young unselfishly laid the ball back to Snook to finish with a powerful reverse stick drive. We then sought to close the game out, keeping the ball in York's right corner for several minutes with some cute passing play, but as the final whistle went, York received a dubious short corner. Fortunately, Pratt saved the shot which looped out of play and we'd won.
