21st Sep 2019 Mens 3rd v Wakefield4(Home) 2 - 1 win

Fellow league newcomers Wakefield IV gave Ben Rhydding III's a great welcome to league 2. From the push back Wakey were hungry to get the ball into the D, making Josh Hughes have to come forward twice, with his big size 12s, in the first 5 minutes. BR3's rallied quickly though, and started to match Wakey's energy. 15 minutes into the game and BR looked like a solid strike on goal could come from anywhere, but Wakey gained a short corner against the run of play. A super save from Hughesy, one of at least three over the game, denied a goal and started the counter attack. A free hit from Carrick, and an assist from Robert allowed a swift strike from Worthy into the back of the net. 1 - 0. After much interplay Wakey broke out from their half and send home a reply 5 minutes from half time, 1 -1. Early in the second half BR look like they were still hurting from the leveller, but they managed to pull themselves around. 10 minutes in, 4 perfect touches on the ball, an aerial from Josh Dunn, sent the ball over the half way line to Robert, passed inside to Barney who gets it to Carrick for a peach, of a one touch finish, into the back of the net, 2 - 1. The game seemed to build into a crescendo over the last quarter, Wakey really pushing to get the equaliser. The BR boys held firm as the game got feistier. The crowd were begging for the final whistle, as Ewan seemed to be getting more and more 'pally' with his opposite number. At last relief, as the game was drawn to a close. BR held out for a 2 - 1 win.
