24th Feb 2018 Mens 4th v Boston Spa 2(Away) 1 - 2 loss

The fourth team travelled to Boston Spa on the back of two good wins and expecting a physical encounter. Unfortunately Boston Spa went ahead after about 5 minutes. There direct approach of long high balls to a very skilful and large centre forward worked well. He crossed it for a first time slap giving the Rhydding keeper no chance. Rhydding continued to play well with some great work down the right. This determination paid off mid way through the half when Pickard beat his man and then drilled the ball into the D for Citizen Higgitt to take a deft touch and nutmeg the Boston Spa keeper. A BS short corner was stopped on the line by George Alexander, unfortunately with his foot. Joint man of the match Henry Priestley saved the resulting flick. 1-1 at half time. The second half began with Pickard injured and Dan Batty making his Debut at adult hockey and he showed his determination, fitness and speed.
The Rhydding defence where under pressure with old head Habin having a real tussle with the Boston Spa. Tom Young playing out of position in defence had a fine game and Jack Worthington was a worthy joint MOTM.
Both teams were playing well but unfortunately Boston Spa unlocked the Rhydding defence with less than 10 minutes to go when captain Westwood was left with two forwards to mark in the D.
Overall, we were in the game throughout and the team should be proud of the effort they put in.
