29th Sep 2018 Mens 5th v Thirsk 3(Home) 2 - 1 win

Ben Rhydding 5s beat a young and very fit Thirsk side. Roger Andre was the toast of the team when, with 10 minutes to go, he swept in the deciding goal at the far post when Petur played in a pinpoint cross.

Rhydding struggled throughout on a slow surface. Passing was not accurate compared to Thirsk. However, the home side knew what to expect and saw a major improvement in the second half where the midfield played slightly deeper with good work via Brook and Alexander. It was unfortunate losing Oliver Harlen so early due to a hamstring injury.

The second half saw the home team defend superbly. Rob Jackson got in some splendid tackles and Sam Pilling was outstanding in goal both gaining Johnnie Roughtons man of the match award.

Rhydding opened the scoring and took the lead through Sicknote, aka Dave Tindall, scoring a wonderful opportunist goal giving the home side a 1-0 lead at half time.

This was not a game that flowed for the 5ths, it was a back to the wall game in which solid defending was needed throughout the game each and everyone on the team knew that this was not their best performance, but there is no doubting the effort put in by one and all against a quality team.
