19th Jan 2019 Mens 5th v Boston Spa 3(Home) 1 - 3 loss

The fifth team welcomed back captain David Abbott for this encounter with Boston Spa , Rhydding went for pace across the back line with Robert Jackson, Phil Blackburn and Johnnie Roughton controlling the defence and to be fair all three distributed well, despite their weight, age and physique.

What went in favour of Boston was a very robust and very fit midfield and they were allowed space to dominate the best part of the game, whilst the Rhydding midfield playing 4 in that area struggled to cope with it by playing too wide allowing Boston to drive through the centre of play rather than push them wide, our midfield needs to play a tighter role against more advanced midfield opposition.

The game itself was quite balanced in other areas Jacob Smithson was outstanding in goal and James Everett had his best game for the fifths. Boston led 1-0 at half time and there was a strong belief Rhydding could get back into this game, but before they did so they conceded two more goals. A penalty flick from Dan Tilbook reduced the arrears after good work via Dave Tindall and Dave Abbott.

This was a game where a result could have been achieved but to do that the team had to gel as a complete unit and it really did not happen, great commitment form everyone as always and if the 5ths can just get competitive edge then they will do well
