9th Feb 2019 Mens 5th v City of York 9(Away) 2 - 2 draw

City of York 2 Ben Rhydding V 2

David Abbotts fifth team made the journey to York and came away with a point in a game which they clearly should have won by a clear margin but for some fine York goalkeeping and secondly some wayward finishing from the Rhydding attack.

Skipper Robert Jackson was the instigator of an early goal for Rhydding when a precision hit from his own 16 found Richard Brook who found himself in a one on one situation to slot home the opening goal, the second soon followed when from a short corner Richard Dawsons injected corner to Johnnie Roughton found the former to slot home between goalkeeper and post.

Rhydding enjoyed some good possession Jim Dunn had an exceptional game as did Carl Mawson and the industrious as ever Aidan Lee-Wardell. Despite a 2-1 half time lead and despite good second half occupancy you could sense if a third goal is not forthcoming the inevitable may well happen and it did with 5 minutes remaining, York gained an equaliser and hung onto the end, Oliver Harlen came close to hitting the winning goal but not to be.

Man of the match for his sheer determination and commitment Bryan Websdale.
