23rd Mar 2019 Mens 5th v Bradford 3(Away) 4 - 0 win

David Abbotts and Robert Jacksons Fifth team put on an exceptional performance against Bradford winning their final league fixture in emphatic style. The game itself could have been a disaster from the word go, with no goalkeeper enter Richard Dawson who courageously stepped up and put himself forward to do the job and he did it so well earning him without doubt the man of the match

Rhydding took an early lead, some excellent play down the right found Matt Wood in the d whose first time pass found Richard Brook to slot the Rhydding team into what was then a shock lead. From that point on Rhydding grew in confidence the midfield working the diamond, it has only taken them until the last game of the season to understand how it works and today they were exceptional Oliver Harlen, Aidan Lee Wardle, George Alexander and Matt Wood worked really well partly down to Robert Jackson and Johnnie Roughton giving them the back up needed, which indeed it did and had too.

Dan Tilbook scored the teams second goal and Ben Rhydding took a 2-0 lead into the second half full of confidence. Rhyddings final two goals came via short corners, injected by George Alexander to Johnnie Roughton, one resulting in a penalty flick which was confidently put away by George Alexander and the second resulted in Matt Wood scoring his first ever goal for Rhydding.

Max Bradley demonstrated his versatility with a strong game at right back, Dan Battys electric pace on the right wing scared the living daylights out the Bradford defence, who used the body check to stop him, and Rory Grierson as always gave his 100% effort, stretching the play down the left wing.

A great win for the rejuvenated fifth team and all of the team owe a huge gratitude to the teams messiah David Abbott who has made everything possible not only running and organising this team but also the 2nd development team and the umpires!

Thank you David Abbott and to Hugh and Andrew Lorimer for the editorial work and support.
