11th Jan 2020 Mens 5th v Boston Spa3(Home) 9 - 0 win

Div 4 North is clearly split between 7 teams with 20+ points and 5 teams with less than 10. Ben Rhydding 5 and Boston Spa 3 find themselves in the bottom 5, so this was going to be a crucial match. Despite have 12 players and a goal keepers kit, Boston Spa opted to play with 11 outfield players. On the other hand Ben Rhydding had a young keeper, Harvey Devenish-Meares, playing his first game for the 5ths and he successfully blocked the shots fired at him.
For the opening 5 minutes, Boston Spa looked positive, but once Richard Brook opened the scoring for Ben Rhydding, the goals began to flow, reaching half time 6-0 to the good.

Boston Spa again started the brighter in the second half, had the captain made a mistake in subbing himself at half time? Having watched his team struggle for 12 minutes, it was time to bring himself on. Eventually Ben Rhydding began to connect with their passes and 3 more goals in the second half ensured a comfortable win. 3 goals for Max Bradley (that is a jug), 2 goals each for Dave Tindall and Richard Brook (is that a jug each for "jug evasion"?) and 1 goal each for Sam Echevarria and Petur Benedikz.

The Wise Men decided that Tom Threlfall had earned the Man of the Match award.

Special thanks to Richard Dawson for turning up towards the end of the first half, thinking he had been selected and wanting to play. Unfortunately he was not on the team sheet and the Wise Men agreed that this earned him the DoD award!

And who do we play next week? Top of the table York. Will they be concerned that we are on a goal scoring spree? I doubt it. Hopefully the captain will set off in time to arrive at York before the start of the match!
