18th Jan 2020 Mens 5th v City of York6(Away) 2 - 8 loss

The 5th team travelled to runaway league leaders York on Saturday, a team who have scored 71 and only conceded 13 goals in their 13 games of the season so far. On the back of a 9-0 win themselves last week there was a brief moment of optimism pre-match however that was soon tested as York managed to score two goals in the first few minutes. But then Ben Rhydding started playing. For the remainder of the half they asked plenty of questions of a team 30 points above them in the league. The midfield worked hard and the defensive communication improved. The forwards started to get into the D and York knew that this game wasnt going to be as easy as they might have imagined.

A goal early in the 2nd half gave Rhydding renewed confidence although York were quick to respond and despite Rhydding getting a second later in the game following some lovely passing amongst the forward line, York were always dangerous and the game finished 8-2. A closer score line wouldnt have been unfair on Rhydding and several of the York goals came from them being more switched on when Rhydding sticks had originally got to the ball first, something most teams in the league wouldnt have been ready to take advantage of. Special mention to our guest goalkeeper Danni who did the team proud and made several good saves.

With home games still to come against Airedale, Adel and Thirsk, if Ben Rhydding can continue to play as they did here theres every chance they could win the battle to come top of the bottom group of teams in the league.
