21st Sep 2019 Mens 5th v Ben Rhydding 4s(Home) 0 - 5 loss

The reshuffle of the leagues had seen the 5th team promoted up a division in the Yorkshire League, and opening the season with a fixture against the BR 4th team would be an indication of the standard of hockey they will be up against over the season. Neither team was at full strength but as would be expected the 4ths dominated possession, the 5ths conceding the possession too easily, something they cannot afford to do. The defence held out for a long period of the first half, but by half time the 4ths had capitalised and were ahead by 2 goals.
The second half followed a similar pattern, the 5ths trying to close down , but the warm afternoon began to take its toll, and they conceded 3 further goals.
Carl Mawson was sound in defence, keeper Josiah Wood made several good saves and earned the man of the match award. Next weekend the 5ths will have to negotiate the cycle races as they travel to play Adel.
