6th Oct 2018 Mens 7th v Huddersfield Dragons 5(Home) 3 - 2 win

An amazing result for David Abbotts new Development team in only their second game; they came up with a 3-2 win over a similar but equal side.

The 7s were captained by Oliver Harlen and Johnnie Roughton, who were the only two seniors in the side, assisted by Mark Horsman and Petur Bendikz from the colts. The remainder of the team consisted of 11 years old and one 10 year old.

Tom Oates gave the 7s the lead and this helped get this new team to gel together. The game was a bit packed at times as all were hungry for the ball, Huddersfield did level through a well taken penalty corner and the scores remained level up until Aiden Fraser scored an excellent debut goal and gave the home team a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw some real confidence in the 7s. Josiah Wood kept his team in the lead with a crucial save, Luca Eune and Jonathan Wood both gave solid performances in defence. But Huddersfield did not give up and a second short corner brought it back to 2-2, game evens - but dont you believe it these boys came straight back at Huddersfield and Aiden Fraser bagged his second goal beating two players in the D before rolling it past the keeper 3-2, and they held on for a deserved victory.

Credit to the midfield, William Jones and Lucas Burke were outstanding. Man of the match award goes to James Cumberland whose tackles in the second half were crucial in supporting his midfield.

It will be different against York Development next week who will be a lot stronger and slightly older, but take nothing away from this team - well done on a great performance. Thank you to David Elsworth and the wonderful Katie Priestley for umpiring and of course the parents.
