Ben Rhydding fought hard against a strong and skilful York side. York scored early through a deflected strike from a short corner that looped over goalkeeper Byrne into the top of net. However, despite dominating possession and territory for much of the game York were unable to add further goals, thanks to steadfast defending from the whole team and excellent goalkeeping from Byrne. At times Rhydding passed the ball nicely with good interplay between midfield and forwards, particularly down the wings, but lacked the cutting edge to threaten the York goal.
