2nd Apr 2022 Mens 7th v Bradford(Away) 1 - 4 loss

Despite the result this was an excellent performance by the one of the most complete youngest ever outfield sides which was handicapped by one 67 year old pensioner that has taken the field this season.

Ben Rhydding held their opponents with extreme confidence and could have taken the lead when Freddie had a great chance to put his side into the lead the play was very unselfish and the team played some constructive hockey with sensible passing. Jake Zammit in particular had an outstanding first half with some excellent tackling and constantly breaking their senior players attacks.

Lawrie Zammit playing in goal for the very first time had an excellent game his kicking was spot on and we are very grateful to Lawrie for turning in with such a fine performance, the defence stood up well with both full backs Aofie Hughes and Alex along with Amelia Knight supported their midfield really well.

This was a game despite Bradfords possession a soft goal was the only way in, and it happened with two goals right at the end of the first half, which they did not deserve, the second half it was a case of the team having the legs to compete, which they did Max Hahn scored an excellent goal to give Ben Rhydding some hope of a result.

It was a big ask on such a young side to expect a result, but it was dejavue when Bradford scored two late well taken goals Alex Skelton the skipper of the day can be very proud of his teams overall performance.

The team can progress where next season their passing will be more accurate and to receive the ball not hiding behind the opposition player, so getting into the right space to receive the ball will be their key objective

A big thank you to the development teams messiah David Abbott, for his work throughout the season and also to Hugh and Andrew Lorimer our club newsletter editors for their excellent editorials and on this match day at Bradford thanks to Chris Hahn and Lee Skelton for assisting the team.
